ON MAY 30, 2010, OUR SUMMER SCHEDULE BEGINS: we switch from two services to one, at 9:30, every year on Memorial Day weekend. We hope you'll join us for this relaxed summertime service as we begin the summer season together.

Beginning May 30, children's church school will occur during worship--the children will be in worship through the time of the Children's Sermon, and then will go with their teachers to learn the Great Stories of the Bible. Bring your children for this fun, educational time!

WORSHIP AND EVENT SCHEDULE FOR SUMMER SUNDAYS:

June 6 Sacrament of Holy Communion

June 13 Annual Blessing of the Animals outdoor worship at 9:30 a.m.

The Blessing of the Animals has become a tradition at St. Andrew. We thank God for our animal neighbors both wild and domestic, and ask God’s blessing on their welfare. As habitats shrink and global warming advances, the plight of our animal neighbors grows more acute. It has become more important than ever that we consider the well-being of animals as inextricably interwoven with our own. The rich diversity of species is one of the glories of creation, celebrated in stories of Noah’s Ark, in the pondering of Job (Job 38-39), in the Proverbs, and in the teaching of Jesus in his call to “look at the birds of the air” (Matthew 6:26) to learn about God’s providence. Our treatment of animals is a good measure of our compassion.

You and your neighbors are invited to bring animal companions to be blessed. Make sure they are fed, watered and walked, and leashed or otherwise under your complete control, for the mutual safety of all. Come and celebrate the
wonder of creation in this joyous worship experience!

Youth Group Mission Trip!!!

Six young people and one Hansen traveled to Skyline Camp in southern Wyoming!  We beat mattresses, swept up bugs, mopped cabins, washed sheets, cut grass, and generally got camp ready for the dozens of kids who will come closer to Christ this summer.  With the generosity of St. Andrew, we also made a good donation to the Encampment Presbyterian Food Bank, and a clothing donation to the local religious Thrift Store.  On the trip, we saw all variety of wildlife, from fields of brilliant lupine, to funny looking sage chickens, bright mountain bluebirds and imposing moose.  Smore's were enjoyed to the sound of crackling fire and distant coyotes.  And then we moved back to Highlands for the first annual Youth Re-Creation: five days of powerful worship with Revs. Gayle Parker and J. Herbert Nelson!  The cabin might have had the odor of teenage boy, but it was a fantastic week!

St. Andrew Dedicates Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden was dedicated following the worship service on June 22, 2008 and what a moving ceremony it was.  A reporter from the Boulder Daily Camera was in attendance and truly captured the emotion and what the garden represents to St. Andrew and the community. If you have not yet seen this touching and very well written article with photos, you may do so on the Daily Camera’s website at http://dailycamera.com/news/2008/jun/23/memorial-garden-dedicated.   We also thank Barbara Donaldson for dedicating her time in taking and compiling the photos for the fabulous slide show highlighting the many people and groups that have worked so hard to make this dream a reality.

Members of the Landscaping/Memorial Garden Committee include:

Debbie Ellerman and Sharon Schwartzkopf, Co-Chairs

Jane Brunot, William Crane, Barbara Donaldson, Shirley Dunkirk, Mark Henderson and Bill Miller

Special thanks go to many individuals in the congregation including:  Stan Adamson, Judy Crane, Loren Donaldson, Bill Ellerman, Todd Etherton, Dee and Ron LeRue, Evelyn Lewis, Lois Miller, Pat Troeltzsch Larry Woods, the Session of St. Andrew, the St. Andrew Boy Scout Troop, individual donors to the Memorial Garden project since 2002, and the Deacons who have donated iris bulbs they will be planting in the fall.

The Boulder landscape architectural firm, Fletemeyer & Lee, is to be commended for the outstanding design of the Memorial Garden area and the professional coordination of its construction.  Sub-contractors West Grove Landscaping and Brandt Concrete are also to be acknowledged and thanked for the care they put into the project.

We invite you to visit the garden after worship or anytime to experience its beauty, serenity and God’s peace.

For 23 years, St. Andrew Presbyterian has walked in the CROP Walk, a national fundraiser to fight hunger around the world. This October, more than 40 St. Andrew walkers showed their strident support with the 100's of other Boulderites.  Over the past decades nearly 450 St. Andrew walkers have raised over $80,000 for CROP!  That has truly helped make a difference here in Boulder and around the world.
