The Reverend Jacqueline Decker Vanderpol, Pastor

The Reverend Jacqueline Decker Vanderpol has just recently been welcomed to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Jacqueline is a gifted pastor, leader, and learner whose passions for worship, mission and outreach, and education, enrich her ministry in preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and leadership. She is someone with whom one can easily connect. She urges us to ask, as Jesus did, "who is our neighbor." Reverend Jacqueline brings her desire for a vibrant ministry within the St. Andrew congregation as well as the at large community. Jacqueline will collaborate with us as we worship, study, and fellowship together, as we deepen our mission efforts, and as we imagine and create new ways to be the church. Jacqueline comes to us as a Boulder native with most of her work done in the Denver area. She is married to Nick and they have three children.

The Reverend Harriet Isbell,                                                                                        Volunteer Coordinator of Communication & Pastoral Care

Vol. Coord. of Communication & Pastoral Care

Harriet dreamed of becoming a professional tap dancer, but got sidetracked along the way and wound up in the ministry. She earned a degree in Christian Education and spent many years using the energy and creativity she’d acquired on the dance floor to make church life fun—and meaningful—for children and youth. Over time, she answered the call to extend her ministry to people of all ages. She graduated from Duke University Divinity School and became the first female Presbyterian pastor ordained in Raleigh, North Carolina. After serving congregations in North Carolina and California, she retired, moved to Boulder and joined our staff as a volunteer provider of pastoral care and congregational support. Her biggest accomplishments outside the church: raising her daughters, loving her grandchildren and winning a jitterbug contest.

 Robert Farr, Organist/Choirmaster

Robert grew up listening to his grandfather sing gospel music on a radio show and at revivals. As a child, he played hymns for Sunday school assemblies in his Southern Baptist church, and by age 15, he was working as a church organist and choir conductor. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree in organ from Stetson University in Florida and a Master of Sacred Music degree (choral and organ) from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Robert has spent more than 50 years serving churches in Florida, Michigan, New Jersey and Colorado as organist, choral and handbell director for over 50 years. Keeping music at the forefront of the worship experience has been his focus since coming to St. Andrew in 1997. When he’s not playing or conducting, Robert drives a van for a retirement home. He and his wife also enjoy tennis and golf.

Julie Gustafson,  Office Administrator

Julie lives in Nederland, Colorado with her husband and two daughters. She has served on the Peak to Peak Healthy Communities Project Board since July 2016 and was elected to the Nederland Board of Trustees in April 2016. Julie most recently worked as Campus Supervisor at Nederland Middle Senior High School. She also served nearly ten years as the National Wildlife Federation's Regional Education Program Manager working to advance environmental education and efforts to connect kids and families to nature. She served six years on the Board for the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, and spending time with her family.

Basil Miller, Sexton

Basil keeps the St. Andrew building and grounds in great shape. Whether he’s prepping for worship, maintaining our mechanical systems or cleaning up after fellowship activities, he approaches every job with purpose and professionalism. He honed his work ethic in the military—serving in the US Army for seven years and the Air Force for three. During that time, he not only built a broad portfolio of technical skills but also visited 25 countries. Basil doesn’t just take good care of property; he also cares for people. He’s on the staff of Boulder Outreach for Homeless Overflow (BOHO), a nonprofit that provides shelter for homeless men and women. He holds certifications in First Aid, AED, CPR, Mental Health First Aid and Suicide Prevention and has been trained to administer Narcan, an emergency treatment for those suspected of opioid overdose.

Nursery Staff: Honoree Bordelon, Jenny Gardner, Makenna Hodges

HONORE (pronounced “honor-ay”) BORDELON

My name is Honore. I am 21 years old, and I’ve lived here in Boulder for 2 years. I am an aspiring psychotherapist, but presently I’m working here at St. Andrew as a childcare provider, as well as my other position where I am a caregiver for an elderly woman.  I enjoy caring for others. It helps me find my center. It also helps me remember what’s really important in life: compassion and connection.

Hello! My name is Jenny and I have the pleasure of helping in the nursery. I have always loved spending time with children but not until recently did I take this passion from being a pastime to a profession. I grew up in Kentucky where I studied architecture in school. Two years ago I moved out to Colorado to practice design. Recently, however, I discovered there was another path for me right now and a door opened for me to join a local preschool as an assistant teacher. I love using my creativity and passion in new and inspiring ways. I'm excited to be able to share that with the community here!"

Hi, my name is Makenna Hodges and I'm a sophomore at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I grew up in Highlands Ranch which is a town not far out of Boulder! I’m currently studying Integrative Physiology in hopes to eventually get into med school where I can learn about orthopedics for pediatrics. This is something I have had a passion for a long time and I can't wait to pursue this field of work! I’ve been working for the church since August and absolutely love the little kiddos!
